More confident than ever, celebrated basketball player Bogdan Bogdanović is at the beginning of an entirely new stage in his career. One that takes place among the gods of global basketball.
Wearing a jersey with the number 8, just like his role model, the famous basketball player Kobe Bryant, Bogdan Bogdanović is ready for the NBA season. After a series of successes in the national team, this promising athlete made a large, giant step in his career. This autumn, without a doubt, we will see his star rise.
Are you ready for a whole new chapter in your career?
Of course I’m ready. Actually, I can’t wait to get to the US, where I will continue my career in a new setting, but before that comes the European Championship.
What do the first months in Sacramento mean for you? What will you focus on first? What does it mean to prove yourself to the team?
That is, first of all, the best part – the beginning, the novelty. In this phase, motivation is at its highest, you just need to stick to the right path – training and working hard.
Have you known stage fright, as a feeling? How important was the support of Vlade Divac in all of this?
We’re all human, so each of us has some kind of stage fear. It’s just important to deal with it in the right way. Certainly both Peđa and Vlade, as well as other Serbian renowned players who work there, will mean a great deal to me and help me a lot, in every sense of the word.
How did you get the idea to start a basketball camp for the young residents of Belgrade?
As a kid, I always dreamed about making my own camp and helping others. There are many talented kids in our part of the world and it is up to us, athletes – and, this time, I mean basketball players – to take care of them. As much as we can. In that way, we invest into the sport that we have dedicated a major part of our life to and we support talent.
The humanitarian dinner that took place a few nights ago, which you organized together with Miroslav Raduljica, is a gesture worthy of attention and admiration. There are many children waiting for some type of help. What message would you send to those of your fellow citizens that are able to provide this help?
Raduljica organized this dinner together with another friend, and Miloš Teodosić and I wanted to contribute to the success of this idea. I think one should always answer the call for humanitarian activities and that everyone should take part in them, in line with their capabilities.
When you are in Belgrade, what do you enjoy the most? What is your favourite part of the city?
What I enjoy the most is spending time with family and friends, and I also like to go out clubbing at times, something that this city is well known for. I like to visit old places, the places in which I spent a lot of time in the past.
