Tara is truly an amazing gift of God! Grand, impressive, unreal! Therefor one of the greatest Serbian film directors Emir Kusturica has settled here. It is by his doing that the magic of this mountain was enjoyed, among others by Nikita Mihalkov and Johny Depp! Both East and West!
The magnitude of the natural treasure, much before them, was realized by our great botanic Josif Pancic, who discovered the famous endemic type of conifer, named after him the Spruce of Pancic, at the village of Djurici, in 1875.
In the year 1981 Tara was officially declared a National park, and every single tree is protected by the law. Apart from conifers, its deciduous forests, intersected by 18 mountain paths, over 120 kilometres long. The usual starting point for the walking tours is at Kaludjerske bare.
