A unique spot in the tourist map of the Balkans, Jahorina is a mountain that carries a special renown among all winter-sports lovers; primarily, the experienced skiers who are in love with adrenaline sports, but also those who are making their baby steps down the slopes. Jahorina is, above all, an Olympic-class mountain that boasts over 40km of well-maintained and well-connected ski slopes–this is key to its status as a skiing/boarding paradise.
The ski resort itself lies at an altitude between 1,300 and 1,890m, whereas the mountain peak, Ogorjelica, reaches 1,916m. What makes this mountain special, apart from the advantages it offers to those enthused by winter sports? Anyone who has at least once felt the unique beauty of this place could not remain immune to its lush, verdant nature, as well as to the charm of the man-made creations that it holds.
Jahorina will win you over with its dialogue between history and tradition. In that sense, it represents a place that reaffirms the age-old values that inspire the people of the modern age. The hedonism, therefore, is not only limited to the sports, but also resonates through the nightlife, the culinary tradition of the restaurants, and the historical spots.
Among the impressions of the visitors stand out the specificities of Jahorina’s slopes, essential for high-quality skiing. Jahorina caters to all profiles of skiers – from the gentle, wide slopes created for beginners, to the steepest downhill and Olympic tracks only for the most experienced. All of the slopes are fully connected with a system of cable cars and ski-lifts of impressive capacities, capable of transporting 13,000 skiers per hour. This system consists of three six-seat and one two-seat cable-cars, three ski-lifts, and three escalators. The longest slope is 2,041m in length, and the largest altitude difference is 590m. When it comes to alpine slopes, Jahorina has 10km of blue, 25 km of red, and 5km of black slopes, which are certain to satisfy the tastes and affinities of all skiing enthusiasts. In the immediate vicinity, in Dvorišta, there are 10km of Nordic skiing tracks. This ensures that the highest standards are met when it comes to everyone’s favourite winter sport.
The proximity of an international airport (which is only 28km away) and the interaction between the cold continental and the warm Mediterranean climate are two of the factors that additionally contribute to the perfect price/quality ratio of Jahorina and raise its appeal. The Olympic centre will greet the winter season of 2018/2019 with a fully operational Technoalpin artificial snow system, which connects all of the slopes via 88 launchers and 25 cannons. At the very top of the mountain exists an artificial, 75,000m3 lake, which is a permanent attraction throughout the year, refreshing the slopes of Jahorina. This, however, is not the end of the opportunities that this mountain can offer. What else is there that can advance the winter hedonism on this internationally-reputed mountain? For example, homologated slopes, night skiing, 120 guaranteed days of skiing, ski-kindergartens, over 1,030m of carefully placed windshields, and expanded and mitigated slopes. All of these testify that Jahorina is an amazing destination for skiing and winter holidays.
The youngest skiers get the most attention: they have two ski-kindergartens with treadmills, a tubing track, and various props that will help them make their first ski-steps and have loads of fun in the snow. The winter delights can be experienced on Jahorina in all their glory, much like its breath-taking landscapes. The cable cars are an ideal means for panoramic sightseeing, letting you enjoy the universal beauty to which no-one is immune.
In case you are not a skier or a boarder, but you would like to become one, the highly qualified instructors of the skiing school “Olympic Centre” will be excited to help you discover these sports. Jahorina is the place for new experiences, because it brings together the mountainous beauty with modern challenges and hedonism of the highest calibre.
