Young designer Milica Opacic talks about fashion as a reflection of personality, provides hints on the upcoming autumn fashion trends and deciphers the universal code of style that cannot go unnoticed.
Belgrade audiences fell in love with her first collection at first sight. Already then it was clear that someone very brave, original and different had appeared on the scene. All that came after only solidified this view, and Milica Opacic became a designer to trust.
How would you describe the woman you design for? Her character, personality, preferences, relationship with fashion…
MO woman is the woman of the present, she is acquainted with fashion and trends but is always herself, authentic. She is daring, dignified, always on the go.
You define your own style as glam rock. What is the most exciting aspect of this atypical combination of sophisticated glamour and wild, unbridled rock?
It is contrast that makes an outfit exciting. For example, if a dress is glamorous, then its perfect contrast lies in a biker jacket and a casual hairstyle.
What makes an outfit effective, or, let’s say, perfectly put together? How important are accessories, as an element of style, in the present time?
Effectiveness is reflected in the woman’s confidence; if you feel beautiful and comfortable in what you are wearing, this is the best possible effect. Accessories are important, but not essential – a single detail can be sufficient to make the entire outfit come together, whether it is shoes, a bag or jewellery.
How do you see the style of contemporary Belgradian women, or, in general, women in your surroundings? Is fashion know-how or courage missing?
Belgradian women have a variety of styles, and I am all in favour of nourishing authenticity in a personal style; if that fails, it is best to “play it safe”, by keeping up to date on the current trends that you can always adapt to your personal dress sense. Today, at least, there are numerous ways to get informed on the social networks, blogs and pages dedicated to fashion.

What kind of fashion is in store for us in the autumn? How do you see the upcoming trends?
What we are preparing is an extension of our already announced autumn/winter collection 2017/18, entitled “BLACK”, which was shown before the audiences in Croatia and Montenegro. As the title says, all items are black, but the variety of materials and cuts is truly great. We have shown that a monochromatic style can be very interesting and attractive and that sometimes it’s not the colour that draws your attention, that creativity and immaculate precision in manufacture are the most important aspects of a collection.
What items of clothing do you find immortal?
Definitely the little black dress, a leather rock jacket, a good pair of jeans and a white shirt.
Is the visual language more important today than before? What is your guiding principle when you are deciding on an outfit for yourself for the day?
I go for simplicity of colour if the cut is interesting and vice versa. The way you dress does say a lot about you, so only you can decide what you really want to say about yourself… so then… try to make yourself clear 🙂
